AI Transparency Policy
1. Purpose of This Policy
Artificial intelligence ("AI") plays a role in how DAILY keeps its community safe, and we believe you deserve a clear, honest explanation of how it works. This AI Transparency Policy describes: where AI is used on DAILY; what our AI systems can and cannot do; the role of human oversight in every consequential decision; the data our AI systems process; and the rights available to you in connection with automated processing under the GDPR.
This Policy should be read together with our Content Moderation Policy, which describes the broader moderation process, and our Privacy Policy, which describes our data practices more generally.
2. Where AI Is Currently Used on DAILY
At this time, AI is used on DAILY in two distinct contexts: (1) content moderation, and (2) the AI Monthly Recap, an optional feature available to DAILY Premium subscribers. We do not currently use AI for purposes such as personalized content recommendation, targeted advertising, automated account creation decisions, or credit or financial scoring, because these features do not currently exist on DAILY. If this changes in the future, we will update this Policy accordingly, as described in Section 10 below.
2.1 AI-Assisted Content Moderation
Within content moderation, our AI-assisted systems are used to:
- Analyze uploaded photos and captions submitted by users
- Analyze comments posted by users
- Analyze user reports submitted about posts, comments, or profiles
- Detect signals and patterns that may indicate a possible violation of our Community Guidelines
- Recommend specific content or reports for further review by a human administrator
This use of AI applies to all users of DAILY, regardless of whether they subscribe to DAILY Premium, and is described in detail in Sections 3 through 9 below.
2.2 AI Monthly Recap (DAILY Premium Feature)
DAILY Premium subscribers have access to the AI Monthly Recap, a feature that uses AI to generate a personalized summary of a user's own posts, captions, and activity from the preceding month. The AI Monthly Recap is generated only for users who have an active DAILY Premium subscription, either automatically at a regular monthly interval or when requested by the user within the App, and is based solely on that user's own content.
Unlike our content moderation systems, the AI Monthly Recap does not evaluate content for Community Guidelines compliance, does not inform any enforcement decision, and does not produce any legal or similarly significant effect concerning you. It is a creative, user-facing convenience feature, not a moderation or decision-making tool, and the automated decision-making protections described in Sections 4 through 9 of this Policy (which are designed around consequential moderation decisions) do not apply to it in the same way. If you unsubscribe from DAILY Premium, you will no longer receive new AI Monthly Recaps, though this Policy will be updated to reflect any material change to this feature.
3. What Our AI Systems Are Designed to Do
Our AI-assisted moderation tools function as a first-line filter and triage mechanism. Given the volume of content that may be submitted to a social platform like DAILY, AI allows us to review submissions more quickly and consistently than manual review alone would allow, helping us identify potentially problematic content and reports so that human administrators can focus their attention where it is most needed.
4. What Our AI Systems Do Not Do
We have deliberately limited the authority of our AI systems to protect users from being subject to fully automated, consequential decisions. Specifically, our AI systems do not:
- Permanently delete any user account
- Permanently ban any user
- Independently issue warnings, restrictions, or suspensions
- Make any final moderation decision of any kind
Every action that meaningfully affects your ability to use DAILY — including content removal, warnings, restrictions, suspensions, and permanent bans — is decided and carried out by a human administrator, not by an AI system acting alone.
5. The Role of Human Oversight
Human oversight is a mandatory step in our moderation pipeline. When our AI systems flag content or a report as potentially violating our Community Guidelines, that item is routed to a human administrator, who independently reviews the material and applies our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service before any enforcement action is taken. AI recommendations inform, but do not replace, the judgment of our human administrators.
This design reflects our commitment to Article 22 of the GDPR, which provides that individuals have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning them, unless certain exceptions apply. On DAILY, no such solely automated, significant decision is made — human review is built into the process by design.
6. Why We Use AI in Moderation
We use AI-assisted moderation because:
- Scale – A social platform can receive large volumes of content, comments, and reports, and AI helps us review this volume in a timely manner.
- Consistency – AI-assisted analysis can help apply consistent initial screening criteria across large amounts of content.
- Speed for Safety – Faster initial detection of potentially harmful content, such as threats or exploitative material, allows us to prioritize the most urgent items for human review.
- Human Focus Where It Matters – By using AI to triage lower-risk content, our human administrators can devote more attention to genuinely ambiguous or serious cases requiring careful judgment.
7. Limitations and Risks of AI Systems
We want to be honest about the limitations of AI-assisted moderation:
- False positives – Our AI systems may occasionally flag content that does not actually violate our Community Guidelines. This is precisely why a human administrator reviews flagged content before any action is taken, rather than allowing the AI to act unilaterally.
- False negatives – Our AI systems may occasionally fail to flag content that does violate our Community Guidelines. This is why we also rely on user reporting to help surface violations that automated systems may miss.
- Context sensitivity – Automated tools may not always fully understand nuance, sarcasm, cultural context, or intent behind content. Human review helps address this limitation.
- Ongoing refinement – We continuously monitor and refine our AI-assisted tools to improve their accuracy over time, though we cannot guarantee they will ever be perfect.
8. Data Processed by Our AI Systems
Our AI-assisted content moderation tools process the following categories of data, all of which are also described in our Privacy Policy:
- Uploaded photos and captions
- Comments
- Reports submitted by users, including any description provided by the reporting user
- Limited associated metadata necessary to process the above (such as the identity of the account that submitted the content, for purposes of applying enforcement actions)
Our moderation AI systems do not process categories of data beyond what is necessary for the specific purpose of detecting potential Community Guideline violations. This processing is grounded in our legitimate interest in maintaining a safe platform, as described further in our Privacy Policy.
Separately, for DAILY Premium subscribers who use the AI Monthly Recap feature, our AI systems process that user's own photos, captions, and activity from the relevant month, solely to generate that user's personalized recap. This processing is grounded in the performance of the DAILY Premium subscription contract with that user, and does not involve any other user's data.
To provide these AI-assisted features, DAILY may use trusted third-party AI service providers that process only the information necessary to perform the requested analysis or generation. Such providers are contractually required to process data only for the purposes of providing the requested AI functionality.
9. Your Rights in Connection With Automated Processing
Under GDPR, you have rights relevant to our use of AI, including:
- The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. As explained above, DAILY does not make such decisions without human involvement.
- The right to obtain human intervention, to express your point of view, and to contest a decision, which you can exercise by submitting an appeal as described in Section 9 of our Content Moderation Policy and contacting us at support@dailyemoji.app.
- The right to be informed about the existence and general logic of automated processing used in connection with your data, which this Policy is intended to satisfy.
- The right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, as described in our Privacy Policy.
If you believe an AI-flagged action was taken against your account without appropriate human review, please contact us immediately so we can investigate.
10. Future Changes to Our Use of AI
If we introduce new uses of AI on DAILY — for example, AI-assisted content recommendations, automated translation, or other features — we will update this Policy to describe the new use case, the data involved, the extent of human oversight, and your associated rights, and where required by law, we will notify users of material changes and obtain any necessary consent.
11. Relationship to Other Policies
This Policy should be read in conjunction with our Content Moderation Policy (which describes the moderation process more broadly), our Community Guidelines (which describe prohibited content and conduct), and our Privacy Policy (which describes our data practices generally). In the event of any inconsistency specifically regarding our use of AI, this Policy shall govern.
